Funeral Receptions Ministry
When We Serve
You can choose when to serve based on the funeral reception schedule.
Receptions are typically in the mornings or afternoons. Some volunteers simply prepare food, e.g., salads or finger sandwiches, and drop it off for the reception.
Why You Should Serve
You will be Christ to others by providing a welcoming place for families and friends to gather and celebrate the life of a loved one by donating food or serving at funeral receptions.
Complete Safe Environment Training
Our archdiocese requires all volunteers 18 and up to complete safe environment training.
This short one-hour online training teaches people how to create a secure and protected environment for everyone, especially children, by recognizing and preventing potential risks or harm.
Learn MoreSubject to availability of resources, funeral receptions are provided free of charge to those families who desire a reception after a funeral service. Receptions are typically held in the Fr. Ryan Stawaisz Community Center.
It may be possible for the Funeral Reception Ministry to provide food for the reception free of charge. (This is dependent on their current workload and availability of volunteers.) Food typically consists of salads, finger sandwiches, and desserts.
Alternately, the family may provide their own food or have it catered. Coffee, tea and water will be provided.
A projector and screen are available should the family wish to show some type of presentation during the reception.
