Sacrament of Baptism

When we’re born, we all have something called original sin. It was the one first committed by Adam and Eve.

When we receive the Sacrament of Baptism, we are washed of that sin and of all those committed before receiving it.

We’re made sons and daughters of God and we officially become a part of the Church.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

1. To become a part of the Catholic community: Getting baptized in the Catholic church is a way to officially become a member of the church community. It’s like joining a club or a team!
2. To receive God’s grace: Catholics believe that when you get baptized, God gives you a special gift called grace. This gift helps you to be a better person and to live a good life.
3. To wash away sins: When a person gets baptized, the water used symbolizes washing away their sins. It’s like getting a fresh start or a clean slate.
4. To follow Jesus’ example: Jesus himself was baptized, and Catholics believe that getting baptized is a way to follow in his footsteps and be more like him

The Catholic Church teaches that “Every person not yet baptized and only such a person is able to be baptized.” (CCC 1246)

Baptism can only be received once because the grace of baptism remains with us forever (CCC 1121). As such it is not possible to be baptized more than once.

Infant baptisms happen on assigned Saturdays throughout the year in the Main Church and adult baptisms happen every year during Easter Vigil Mass.
