Full of Jesus
By Alexis Scamman
Waking up and seeing a volcano out your window is such a reminder of how wonderful of a creator God is. We visited Hogar Virgen del Socorro on Friday. It was absolutely beautiful. Xiomara, the Volunteer Coordinator, showed us around, and we got to meet and love on the residents there. She told us how most of the workers don’t get paid that much, but they do it because they love the residents and they love what they do. It was a blessing to get to see the wonderful work being done there as well as give them our donations, donations collected from Prince of Peace.
Later in the day, we got to spend time exploring the markets in La Antigua. Guatemala is full of so many colors. Everywhere we looked, we saw colorful buildings and colorful fabrics. Even the buses here are so extravagant.
We also shared our last dinner together on Friday. The restaurant had a band playing songs on the marimba, so of course, we requested Señor Sol, a song we have danced and sung so many times on our mission. We all got up and danced. I bet this was surprising to the other guests at the restaurant, but we didn’t let this hold us back. From Valeria doing the worm to Daniel break dancing, this time reminded me of how full life is when your heart is full of Jesus.
At our first mission training, we were given a prayer partner to pray over before and during the mission. During our reflection time Friday evening the prayer partners were revealed. Each person bought their partner a gift and said a few thoughtful words about them. I loved this time because I was able to reflect and see how far we have come. For some of us, we went from complete strangers to a true family. Getting to serve alongside this family has been one of the greatest experiences of my life, and I am so glad that we got to share a little bit of it with y’all. Thank you for all of your support and prayers. We have made it home safely. Thank you so much for your prayers! We will see y’all soon!
